One act of kindness at a time
Morro Bay Lions are changing the world.
Serving Morro Bay, Los Osos & beyond.
The Morro Bay Lions Club exists for one reason: to make life better for our neighbors. We believe small acts, done consistently, create big change. Every mile driven, meal served, eye screened, and dollar donated directly fuels programs that change lives right here on California’s Central Coast.
By the Numbers
In the past 12 months:
- 3600+ meals served to community members in need
- 2000+ students eye exams assisted by materials supplied by the Lions
- 3 reliable vehicles gifted to individuals and families to restore mobility and opportunity
- $5,000 awarded in scholarships to Morro Bay High School graduates
- local organizations supported through funding, volunteer hours, or both
Empowering Independence: Car Giveaway Program
The Lions change lives one car at a time…by providing cars to local financially challenged individuals through a coalition of the MB Lions Foundation, Todd’s Garage, and the MB city Community Resource Connections Office.
A coalition of Todd’s Garage, Community Resource Connections & the Morro Bay Lions Foundation donate 3-4 cars/year to needy individuals & families. Transportation can mean the difference between stability and struggle. Through our Lions Car Giveaway Program, we’ve put over 47 safe, reliable vehicles into the hands of people who serve others, work hard, and just need a break to get ahead. Each car is refurbished by local partners like Todd’s Garage and presented in a public celebration—often at the Cruisin’ Morro Bay Car Show.
Vision Care for All Ages
We provide eye care to needy children and adults in Morro Bay and Los Osos. We also collect used eyeglasses. Eye surgeries and other eye care for low income individuals is available at the Lions Eye Clinic of Northern California. Our Lions Vision & Eyeglass Screenings program reaches students in Baywood, Del Mar, and Monarch Grove elementary schools, as well as adults in need. Using advanced SPOT scanners, we detect vision issues early, ensuring every child has the chance to learn and grow without the barrier of poor eyesight. Free glasses are provided through our Lions Sight & Hearing programs.
Fighting Hunger & Building Connection
Lions coordinate Monday Night Dinners for food insecure and financially challenged folks at the Morro Bay Vet’s Hall every Monday. This service program also provides free clothing, personal hygiene items, barber cuts and access to social service personnel for all guests. We partner with the SLO Food Bank to acquire free and low-cost food for our food pantry available free to food insecure guests and volunteer groups providing the meals.
- Monday Night Dinners at the Vet’s Hall: Every week, we serve a warm meal to 80+ guests, creating a space for nourishment and community.
- SLO Food Bank Partnership: Together, we distribute fresh produce and staples to families across Morro Bay and Los Osos.
- Holiday Food Baskets: Dozens of families receive full holiday meals, ensuring no one is left out during special seasons.
Investing in Our Youth
We provide scholarships to Morro Bay High School students. Our scholarship program helps Morro Bay High School graduates take the next step toward college, vocational training, or other career paths. We believe education opens doors, and we’re proud to support our youth as they walk through them.
Celebrating & Supporting the Community
The Morro Bay Lions Club supports the City of Hope with donations. We prep and cook turkeys for the SLO Community Holiday Feast through United Way. At the Downtown Halloween Walk the MB Lions passed out candy & goodies to 800+ children and pets. From hosting the Hot Dog Booth at Art in the Park to helping at the Morro Bay Bird Festival, Downtown Halloween Walk, and Health & Wellness Fair, we show up where our community gathers. Whether it’s raising funds, raising awareness, or just raising spirits, the Lions are there.
🌎 We help keep our local ecosystem trash-free by collecting and recycling aluminum cans and plastic bottles through volunteer trash pick-ups, from local families, merchants and we even go to some local organizations. We use the cash from selling recycled waste materials to help support local service projects and activities.
Beyond Morro Bay
As part of Lions Clubs International, we also contribute to global efforts, from disaster relief to sight-saving surgeries in developing countries. Your local Lions Club is part of the largest service organization in the world—1.4 million members strong in over 200 countries. Lions support disaster relief nationally and internationally through both the California Lions Foundation and the Lions Clubs International Foundation.
